Can Orthodontic Treatment Help You?

Orthodontic treatment moves your teeth into a healthier position. It's not just about looks - it can make your bite work better and your teeth easier to keep clean.

If you've been dealing with crooked or crowded teeth, gaps, a bite that doesn't line up, or teeth that are just hard to floss because they're packed too close together, this is exactly the kind of thing orthodontic treatment is meant to address.

Not sure if that's you? That's what a consultation is for - no need to self-diagnose.

Signs You Might Benefit From an Assessment

A lot of patients come to us because something feels or looks off, even if they can't quite name it. Maybe your teeth overlap or twist, there's a visible gap, your bite doesn't feel right, or you've noticed a couple of spots that are tough to clean no matter how carefully you brush. Some people also feel jaw discomfort or notice their teeth wearing unevenly over time.

Having one of these on its own doesn't automatically mean you need treatment. The only way to know for sure is an in-person exam - so if any of this sounds familiar, it's worth having us take a look.

Your Options: Invisalign or Braces

We offer two ways to straighten teeth, and which one fits you depends on your teeth and your goals.

  • Invisalign uses clear, removable aligners that gradually shift your teeth. You take them out to eat and brush, and they're far less noticeable day-to-day than metal braces - which is why a lot of adults and teens lean toward this option. It tends to work best for mild to moderate cases.

  • Braces use brackets and wires to move teeth over time. It's a proven approach, and it can handle more complex cases than aligners are suited for. Braces are common for teens whose bite is still developing, but plenty of adults choose them too.

We'll walk you through both at your consultation and help you land on whichever one actually fits your situation.

Orthodontics in Scarborough for Kids, Teens & Adults

If you're weighing this for your child, their teeth and jaws are still growing, which is part of why catching an issue early can matter. It doesn't mean treatment starts right away - it just means there's more room to work with if something does need addressing later. If your child's teeth are coming in crowded or crooked, it's worth having us take a look, even if nothing happens yet.

If you're considering this for yourself, it's genuinely never too late. We factor in things like your existing dental work, your oral hygiene habits, and what you actually want out of treatment, whether that's straighter teeth, a more comfortable bite, or both.

There's no "right age" to start - what matters is whether treatment would help you, and that's something we can only tell you after a look at your teeth.

What Happens During Your First Consultation?

Not knowing what to expect can be the biggest reason people put off booking. So here's the honest walkthrough: we start by talking, just getting a sense of your concerns and what you're hoping for. Then we take a close look at your teeth, gums, and bite, with X-rays or photos if needed.

From there, we explain what we're seeing in plain language and talk through whether Invisalign, braces, or neither one makes sense for you, being upfront about the trade-offs either way.

If treatment is a good fit, we'll put together a plan tailored to your teeth. And you'll leave knowing exactly what happens next - with zero pressure to decide on the spot.

What Can You Expect During Orthodontic Treatment?

Once treatment starts, you'll come in for regular check-ins so we can track how your teeth are moving and make adjustments along the way - wire changes if you're in braces, new aligner sets if you're on Invisalign.

We'll also keep an eye on your oral hygiene throughout, since keeping your teeth and gums healthy matters just as much as the alignment itself. And once active treatment wraps up, we'll talk with you about aftercare to help hold your results.

Treatment length varies a lot from person to person so that we won't hand you a generic number. Once we've seen your case, we can give you a realistic estimate.
